Pueritia Community: Healthy Eating Challenges with Parents and Kids

Every month, Pueritia runs healthy lifestyle and clean eating challenges with its community members. Since the members are primarily parents with growing children, healthy eating and feeding nutritious food to kids often becomes a challenge. To overcome this and to slowly build a sustainable lifestyle, Pueritia started Healthy Eating Challenge with Parents and Kids recently.

In this challenge, parents were encouraged to take up preparation of clean healthy meals balancing macronutrients and micronutrients. This was to help educate the parents on the importance of a balanced diet for everyone in the family. This also helped them to plan meals by minimizing the use of preservatives laced-processed food or junk foods, and also reduce the amount of sweet consumption. Parents also learned some really nutritious and tasty recipes that are quick and would appeal to kids so that they look forward to their meal times.

To build the focus and help parents stay on track, daily polls were circulated within the community WhatsApp group so that parents stay on track and committed to the goal. They were inspired to adopt a healthy lifestyle which had not just nutritious food for children, but also indulge them in physical sports and exercises together so that an overall healthy lifestyle is adopted in the family. This encouraged the members to make better choices regarding foods that are free from preservatives, have clean labels and meet their macronutrients and micronutrients quota.

In addition to the daily meals, parents also got an opportunity to switch to healthy snacks which children crave for so much. Pueritia protein chips helped the parents by catering a palm-oil free, preservative free, gluten-free clean label snacking option in various delicious flavours. These chips are made of ragi, oats and vegetables thereby, being a great snacking option. The kids loved them even more due to tasty flavours and did not need to depend on unhealthy snacks to satiate their between meals hunger. For sweet cravings, the Almond Choco Laddoos were a big hit! Since these are sugarfree and prepared from dates, the timing was just right with Diwali festivities being around the corner and everyone’s temptation to indulge in sweets was very high.

The following are the key highlights that helped parents with this challenge:-

Making Nutritious Food Choices

When we mention nutritious food, it includes fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats should be priority ingredients. We emphasized on involving children in buying fruits and vegetables with their parents and even helping the parents during cooking. It is such a fun, educational and helpful activity in building foundational habits towards eating right.

Clean Snacks for Kids

Snacks are an important part of growing children's diet as despite eating home-cooked nutritious meals, they crave for snacks on a regular basis. This becomes a challenge for parents in ensuring that the children eat healthy snacks instead of fried and junk food. Choosing clean labels, such as Protein chips and Millet cookies, or even sugarfree dry fruit laddoos are being catered as a solution to this problem.

Exercises for a Healthy Lifestyle

Many parents also started incorporating basic exercises to further build a healthy lifestyle for their children and themselves. Some parents did yoga, some indulged in walks while others enrolled their children in various sporting activities. This ensured that while the families were eating healthy, an active lifestyle would further strengthen the goal of a healthy lifestyle for the entire family. A post workout drink made with Pueritia Foods Health Mix was the icing on the cake for a quick and nutritious drink for the children.

A Healthy Journey Together

By focusing on healthy eating, clean nutrition, and regular exercise, families could bond better and support each other in leading active and healthy lifestyles. The children benefitted the most out of this challenge and will now look forward to maintaining this on a regular basis.
